Mbale Central Police has incarcerated two bar managers of Aox bar, Maluku ward, Mbale city over violating the Presidential covid-19 guidelines.

The events transpired last night as police under operation of the Officer-In-Charge of Mbale Central Police station, Assistant Superintendent of Police, Mr. Arafat Kato raided the hangout spot arresting the two mangers and also dispersing over 200 people.

Currently, the suspects who were arrested are being held at the Mbale Central Police Station. Although Police hasn’t informed what course of action shall be taken henceforth, all they have said is the suspects “will be charged accordingly.

However, according to Police, their actions were instigated by a number of reports. These reached them indicating that despite the Presidential directives, the bar had stayed open. Hence increasing the risk of spreading covid-19 as Mr. Kato said; “We got information from our informers that there were hundreds of people drinking in Aox bar. We rushed there and we found several people drinking alcohol and doing acts that are likely to spread an infectious disease.”

Police also promised to keep enforcing the covid-19 guidelines and arrest those who are violating them as they said; “As Police we are ready to continue targeting bars violating coronavirus guidelines. We have deployed our informers in all bars in Mbale District to give us information on bar owners who operate illegally despite the ban.”
