Shock and sadness has engulfed the National Unity Platform after Counsel Wameli Anthony the head of their Legal Team passed on. Wameli has died from the US where he’s been admitted for treatment.
It should be recalled that the accredited lawyer about 2 years ago was taken to hospital after complaining of severe stomach pains. There was worry that he might have gotten poisoned because of his political affiliations to NUP.
He was however flown to the US where it was discovered that he had stage four colon cancer. Consequently, he started undergoing chemotherapy at the Boston Medical Centre in Massachusetts, US. Unfortunately he hasn’t made it back to Uganda alive.
NUP’s top hierarchy including the party president Hon Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu have already taken to social media to mourn the passing of their comrade.
“Very sad day! Just learnt of the untimely passing of our dear brother and Head of our Legal Team, comrade Wameli Anthony from the U.S. where he’s been admitted for treatment. Details will be provided in due course. May his soul rest in eternal peace,” said Bobi Wine.
NUP secretary General David Lewis Rubongoya said that “Very sad to learn of the untimely death of our brother, comrade Wameli Anthony in the U.S.! You have fought the good fight. You have finished the race. You have kept the faith. May the angels of God receive you in eternal glory.”
Wameli has been a strong human rights activist and critic of the high handedness of the current regime. May his soul rest in eternal peace.
