NTV Mwasuze Mutya presenter Faridah Nakazibwe has come out to urge Ugandan media to start supporting Ugandan artists in huge numbers. Taking to her Twitter page, Nakazibwe said that its part of the media’s role to positively expose Ugandan artistes to the world.
Therefore, instead of bashing and criticizing them, media should start uplifting them. She added that the media just doesn’t stop at the different platforms but also the people on social media.
“It’s partly our role as media to positively expose our Artists to the world. So instead of bashing them and putting them down, let’s support them. By the way, media includes you too…ngamba gwe atunula emabega” said Faridah Nakazibwe.
Ugandan media has since time immemorial been facing heavy backlash for lagging Ugandan music behind. They have been accused by both the fans and artistes as well. Saying that instead of being proud of what Ugandan artistes produce, they instead turn their backs from them.
More so, they are being accused of playing foreign music more than local music especially Nigeria music. Besides, these have also been accused of being corrupt as they only play musicians who offer them something.
In retaliation, the media has also lambasted singers for producing poor quality music. Also, these musicians have also been accused of disrespect towards media personalities, something that has been evident for ages. A case in point being Eddy Kenzo thumping journalist Kasuku some years ago.
It just seems that the buy Uganda build Uganda slogan in the entertainment industry is yet to pick up. This is despite both the media and artists preaching how the Nigerian industry has grown because of uplifting each other. In Uganda, it seems the opposite, tearing each other down.
