Speaker of the 11th Parliament Anita Among has been criticized over misinforming the 11th
Parliament during a recent sitting.
While speaking about the stampede at Makerere University that robbed a student of his life,
the Speaker Anita Among claimed the deceased student was a guild president aspirant who lost his life due to injuries sustained when he was stabbed with a broken bottle.
Contrary to what she said, the student that was murdered was not a guild president aspirant
although he in deed died due to injuries he sustained from being stabbed with a broken bottle.
Additionally, the students not only did not run in the Makerere University guild race but also
belonged to a different university as he is a student of Uganda Christian University, Kampala
Campus.
The deceased, 27-year-old Michael Bewatte was a second year student of Uganda Christian
University (UCU), Kampala Campus pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree of Law, Something Speaker Anita Among ran short of.
At the time when he tragically lost his life, he had joined the Makerere University guild
campaigns to support one of his old boys (OBs) Justus Tukamushaba who was part of the guild
race under the Forum for Democratic Change party (FDC).
During a scuffle in between supporters of FDC and NUP, violence ensued which he was
unfortunately a victim of. Police spokesperson, Fred Enanga informed the media that police
intelligence had captured face of 12-15 people whom they suspect to have a hand in the
murder.
We pray for the deceased to Rest In Eternal Peace as the Lord strengthens his family and
friends during this trying time. Hopefully justice shall be served and the culprits shall be brought
to book for their crime.
