Erias Lukwago Biography
Born on the 11th of May 1970 (50 years), Erias Lukwago is Ugandan politician and city lawyer who is born to Mr. Muhamoud Mirundi as his father, and Salimanti Nakayaga his mother. They are residents of Kabungo Masala, current day Kalungu district. It is said that the Lord Mayor has more than twenty siblings.
Education Background
The prominent city lawyer Ssalongo Elias Lukwago went to Makerere University (MUK) from 1995 to 1997 attaining a Bachelor’s Degree of Law (LLB). He then attained a diploma in Legal practice from the Law Development Center (LDC) in 1998.
More so, he went on and got a certificate in Advocacy Skills from the International Law Institute.
Political Career
In the 2006 general election, Elias Lukwago under the Democratic Party represented Central Kampala Constituency in parliament, a position from which he resigned in 2011. The same year he was elated
as Kampala City Lord Mayor and sworn in on 20th May 2011 and has since then held the position in the last three consecutive elections.
Although it must be noted that, whereas he stood as an independent candidate in the 2011 and 2016 elections, he joined Uganda’s largest Opposition party Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) on 28th July 2020, and he won the elections in January 2021.
Additionally, he served as the national Legal adviser for the Democratic Party (DP) and also the Shadow Minister for Justice and Constitutional affairs.
Career Background
He has since 1998 held the position of Managing Director for Lukwago and Co. Advocated which has made focus on constitutional law and human rights laws which has won a number of cases earning him the position as one of Uganda’s top city lawyers.
