Chaos and protests have ensued at Makerere Business School (MUBS) in Nakawa, Kampala over the nominations for the upcoming guild elections. This fracas broke out after one of the applicants Juma Wasswa Balunywa (JWB) wasn’t nominated.
Apparently, Juma Wasswa Balunywa is the son of the University’s former Principal, Professor Wasswa Balunywa. For quite long, JWB as he’s been popularly known has been one of the most popular students in line to run for the guild presidency. A darling and favorite on social media, as he had the perfect PR team.
Rumors first emerged that he was out of the race due to a retake which is an automatic disqualification. However, he came out and said that this was just rumors and he was still in. He was even pushed out of the UYD party and was denied a ticket, he then became independent.
First forward to the D-day of nomination which is today Thursday, Juma Wasswa Balunywa has missed out on being nominated. Soon as the news broke out, students especially those that have been supporting him wrecked havoc on the school campus. Police rained in with bullets and teargas to contain the situation although the JWB brigade gave them a hard time.
Additionally, credible sources have it that the man at the center, Juma Wasswa Balunywa has been beaten and also arrested. He is being detained at Naguru Police Station. A WhatsApp status obtained by this website has JWB’s father, Prof Balunywa crying foul over the mayhem at the campus and the unfortunate ordeal his son has been subjected to.
