Early life
On 26th June 1968, Jovenel Moïse was born in Trou du Nord although he and his family later migrated to Port-au-Prince which marked the beginning of his long life in the cause of becoming a better and resourceful person.
Education background
While at Port-au-Prince, Jovenel studied his primary at École Nationale Don Durélin before
joining Lycée Toussaint L&Ouverture for secondary school and later on, Centre Culturel du
Collége Canada-Haïtien for college hence completing his education.
Family and Children
During the year of 1996, he tied the knot with his school days sweetheart Martine Marie
Étienne Joseph and in the same year, the newly wedded couple decided to relocate to another
city, Port-de-Paix with an aim of developing rural areas.
The couple was blessed with three children Jomarlie,Joverlein andJovenel Jr who are all adults
by now.
Business Career
After the couple had relocated, Jovenel used the little capital he has to start a business which he named JOMAR Auto parts and still runs up-to-date. The ambitious Jovenel was not done yet as during the same year, he started and Agricultural project focusing on organic banana production on a piece of land approximately 25 acres in the Nord-Ouest department.
As though that was not enough, Moïse started a drinking water plant distribution with his partner Culligan in 2012 to the Nord-Ouest and Nord-Est departments. Eleven years later, in 2012, he founded AGRITRANS SA, which introduced the agricultural project NOURRIBIO to Trou du Nord, hence aiding the creation of Haiti’s first agricultural free trade zone, a 1000-hectare (2,500-acre) banana plantation in Nord-Est.
Although the plan was laid out perfectly as the project was meant to export bananas to
Germany, which would be a first time since 1954, only two containers were ever sent, by this
time, he had already warned himself a nickname Nèg Bannann which also means Banana Man.
Aside from the fact that it failed as an export company, Agritrans which was initially meant to
have been a source of about 3,000 jobs was only in position to create only 600 jobs by March
2015.

Political Journey
He was in 2015 appointed President candidate by President Michel Martelly for the Haitian Tét
Kale Party (PHTK) and his major aim while campaigning was to promote bio-ecological
agriculture for Haiti’s dominantly rural population.
Aside universal from the above, he aimed at promoting education and health care, energy
reform, rule of law, the creation of sustainable jobs, environmental protection, and development of Haiti as a destination for ecotourism and agritourism.
Subsequently, Jovenel Moïse emerged victorious with 32.8% of votes in the first round of the 2015
elections held on 15 October 2015, while an exit poll conducted by the Haiti Sentinel reflected
Moïse receiving only 6% of the vote, and Célestin and many observers called the results
fraudulent which sparked mass protests in the country.
This resulted into the postpone of general elections while President Martelly stepped down in
February 2016 at the end of his term while Jocelerme Privert stepped as acting President until
elections were held.
After 2016 general elections, Moïse was sworn in on 7th February 2017 for a five year term
although his government was marred by the vices of corruption, violation of human rights,
human trafficking.
Cause of Death
On July, 7th, 2021, Jovenel Moïse was assassinated at his home and died due to injuries
sustained from bullet wounds. In the same attack, his wife suffered multiple injuries which
landed her in a hospital bed.
