The Ministry of Health has asked the Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) to prohibit or ban the
playing of the club banger tune Tumbiza Sound on electronic and social media at large. The reasons the MoH is giving are that people have been misled by the message in the song.
The song by a musician identified as Eric Opoka aka EezZy’s was criticized for downplaying the
severity of the coronavirus disease and encouraging people to carryon with life as normal.
“The message in the song has in turn caused misinformation among different audiences and
subsequently created complacency among the public,” read a statement from Dr. Henry
Mwebesa, the Director General Health Services to Uganda Communications Commission.
It is further learnt that, the Ministry of Health (MoH) officials aren’t pleased with some of the lyrics of Tubinza Sound song, thus need to ban it. Saying that the exact words in, are the reason Uganda is getting more positive cases daily.
“Mwe bwemuba mu lockdown, ffe tuba mu bend down,” loosely translated to “While you are in
lockdown for us we are shaking it down,” is one of the controversial statements that landed the
artiste EezZy into hot soup and eventually his song Tumbiza Sound ban.
Thus, if banned by UCC, any individuals found promoting this song may likely end up on the
wrong side of the law. In related news, the Ministry of Health confirmed 710 new cases, pushing the total to 30,071 confirmed in Uganda.
With two more deaths occurred leading to a total of 230 as of 18th December 2020.
