A prominent law firm is fighting back against accusations of wrongdoing and Shonubi, Musoke & Co. Advocates, a well-known legal team, found themselves in the spotlight after a news story broke about a gold scam that cost an investor a huge sum of money. The firm has come out swinging, strongly denying any part in the alleged scam.
It should be known that, the drama started when a local newspaper ran an article on October 2, 2024, titled “How ‘Investor’ lost Shs5b in gold scam”. Then local television NTV Uganda jumped on the story too, airing a segment called “The Gold Web.”
Both reports hinted that the firm, and specifically one of its partners, Mr. Peter K. Musoke, might be mixed up in this messy situation. Shonubi, Musoke & Co. Advocates wasted no time in setting the record straight.
On October 4, 2024, they issued a public statement making it crystal clear they had nothing to do with the alleged scam. They were especially keen to clear Mr. Musoke’s name, saying that any actions he was accused of were done without the firm’s knowledge or permission.
The firm’s statement was straightforward distancing itself from the wrongdoings of Peter saying that it was not connected to the gold scam. “Shonubi, Musoke & Co. Advocates is not connected to or in any way involved in the alleged engagements, transactions, or matters that are the subject of the said article and NTV News Bulletin.”
They even went a step further and pointed out that the people involved in the alleged scam, including a someone named Christian Arndt, have never been clients of the firm. And to really drop home their point, they insisted no money related to these individuals or their companies ever passed through their hands.
Mr. Musoke, wanting to clear his name and protect the firm’s reputation, decided to step down while the situation is investigated. This shows he’s taking the accusations seriously and wants to make sure everything is looked into properly.
Shonubi, Musoke & Co. Advocates used this as a chance to remind everyone that they’ve always run their business by the book. They’re all about ethical legal practice, proper corporate governance, and fighting corruption. They even said that they are fully complaint with the anti corruption, anti fraud and condemn such acts.
“We are fully compliant with anti-corruption, anti-fraud, good corporate governance, and professional best practices, and condemn any conduct contrary to these values.” The firm gets that this whole thing might have caused some confusion and worry for their clients and the public, and they apologized for that.
They want to assure everyone that they’re committed to staying true to their values and keeping their good name. This is so far a test of legal and professional stand as the law firm comes out to shout and prove its innocence in this gold scam case.
