Katumba Edward Wamala Background
General Edward Katumba Wamala was born back in 1956 on the 19th of November in Bweeza village that is located on Ssese Islands, Kalangala district. He is the last born to the late Henry Wamala
and Marjorie Wamala.
Since he is a Muganda, he belongs to the “Nkima” or money clan. Through this, he is given names that help to affiliate him to his clan of belonging, the Nkima no wonder his name Katumba Wamala that he is popularly known by.
Education
Gen. Katumba Wamala attended early education at Nakibizzi Primary School and later transferred to Kasubi Primary School where he completed his Primary education (PLE).
The army general holds a certificate in Agriculture while in 2007, he graduated from Entebbe
based Nkumba University with a Bachelor’s Degree of Arts in International Relations and
Diplomacy.
As a man in uniform, Katumba Edward Wamala has been to a number of military schools which include the Ugandans Military Academy. While it was still in Jinja before being transferred to Kabamba, Mubende
district.
Within Africa, he went to the Tanzania Military Academy at Monduli and The Nigerian Command and Staff College which is located at Jaji in Kaduna State. Out side the African continent, the General attended a military academy in the former Soviet Union (USSR), the United States Army Command.
And General Staff College at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas and the United States Army War College at Carlisle Barracks, Pennsylvania.
Family and Wife
In 1987, the general tied the knot with his high school sweetheart Catherine Wamala and the two were blessed with six children, one boy and five girls that include the late Brenda Nantongo Wamala, Belinda and more. Today, the general even has grandchildren.

Career
Currently, General Katumba Edward Wamala has the highest Military rank in the Uganda People’s Defense Forces since he holds the position of the Chief of Defense Forces of the Ugandan armed forces.
Previously, from the year of 2005 to 2013, General Katumba Wamala served in the UPDF as the
Commander of Land Forces.
Whereas in between 2001 and 2005, he served as the Inspector General of the Uganda Police which is the highest rank in the police department a position he later was promoted from handing over to General Kale Kayihura.
Gen. Katumba Edward Wamala was also the first ever army soldier to ever serve as the head of the Uganda Police Forces. In January 2017, he was appointed a Ministry as the Minister of Works while two years later, on the 14th of December 2019, he was reappointed as the Minister of Works and Transport.
