Archbishop Cyprian Kizito Lwanga Biography
He was born on the 19th of January 1953 in Naggalama, Mukono District, to the late Joseph Nsubuga Wamala a Catechist who passed on in 1983. He was among the nine children of the late Catechist with four brothers and four sister.
Education
As a young man, Kizito Lwanga went to Kyabakadde Primary School from which he moved on to join Nyenga Minor Seminary. In 1972, he joined the National Major Seminary of Philosophy of Katigondo until 1974 and later that year, became a student of Theology at the National Seminary of Ggaba where he spent four year from 1974 to 1978.
Priesthood Life
This was followed by his ordination as a Priest on April 9th 1978 by the late Cardinal Emmanuel
Nsubuga of Archdiocese of Kampala. In 1979, he enrolled into French University of Clermont – Ferrand where he studied a course in administration and languages, with a special focus on administration.
Cyprian Kizito Lwanga appointment as Chaplain of His Holiness in 1986 was closely followed by his award of a Doctorate in Canon Law of the Pontifical Urban University in Rome in 1994. Two years later, in 1996, he was initially appointed as Bishop of Kasana – Luweero on 16th November and was later ordained as the Bishop of Kasana – Luweero on 1st March 1997.
In 2006, on 19th August, he held the position of Archbishop of Kampala Archdiocese as an
appointee and later on 30th September the same year, he was appointed as the Archbishop of
Kampala Archdiocese, succeeding Cardinal Emmanuel Wamala. And this is the position he held
till he breathed his last.
