The leader of the National Unity Platform (NUP) Hon Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu alias Bobi Wine has taken on President Museveni’s challenge and run to Court over election theft allegations. Museveni last week in an address said that the NUP was involved in election theft.
The President added that he had proof that the party had stolen one million votes. He even dared them to take him to Court if they think that he’s maligning them. It hasn’t even taken a week and NUP has already filed a petition against these allegations by the President.
Bobi Wine in a letter posted on social media branded Museveni an election thief who is in power illegitimately. According to the former Presidential candidate, Museveni usurped the will of the people and is ruling illegally.
“Last week, election thief Gen. Yoweri Museveni made wild claims that the National Unity Platform rigged the last election by one million votes. The same man who rigged and usurped the will of the people of Uganda in broad daylight! He challenged us to take him to court. Today, I wrote to him informing him that we are taking on the challenge! He should cede his illegitimately gotten immunity in writing so we meet in court. We are also challenging him to an independent, transparent election audit presided over by an international agency!”
In the letter, Bobi Wine claims that Museveni not only rigged the previous election but also other previous ones. And although the Supreme Court couldn’t nullify these results, it pointed out that there were irregularities.
Additionally, the former Kyadondo east MP wrote that “The 2021 election – the culmination of a brutal military operation you waged against us throughout the presidential campaigns – is potentially the most rigged election in history. YOU KNOW THAT YOU DID NOT WIN THAT ELECTION. We have evidence to this fact.”
However, for this to happen, the singer turned politician listed some conditions that he wants to be met before proceeding to Court. He wants the President to waive his immunity so that he’s also subject to the rule of law.

Additionally, Bobi Wine wants an independent and transparent audit of the results. They will then therefore hand in their evidence that the election was stolen by the ruling party. Furthermore, if the results show that NUP rigged the election as per the President’s claims, they are ready for the necessary punishment but if it turns out that Museveni stole the election, he should step down and allow the people to be led by a government they chose.
