The chairperson and his treasurer of Kikizi West Constituency Journalists Cooperative Savings and Credit Union in Kanungu district have been arrested for failing to account for the money allocated to their Sacco.
Eliab Niwagaba, Kinkizi FM radio presenter, and chairperson of the Sacco alongside his treasurer Ausi Senyunja were arrested for failing to account for up to thirteen million which is part of the thirty million that was allocated to the group.
A section of their group members including Patson Bareire, Mackline Atuheire, Sarah Akampurira, Sumaya Ampeire, Emmanuel Mubunya, Glorious Amumpaire, and Clemensia Twine petitioned for police intervention after they realized something fishy was going on.
According to one of the members Clemensia Twine, their Sacco chairperson actually withdrew the money through a mobile money agent and used it for personal benefit yet they had agreed to invest as a group.
According to the Kanungu Deputy Resident District Commissioner Gad Rugaaju Ahimbisibwe, investigations confirmed the allegations as Niwagaba in deed withdrew the money and relocated to Bugangari trading centre from Kikizi where he initially lived.
