Uganda conducted the population census exercise this year, and every Ugandan has been waiting for the results to see how the country stands. And it turned out that the East African country has around 45.9 million persons as of 2024. And mentioned the biggest tribes within the country as we are revealing as follows.
The Baganda remain the largest tribe in Uganda, with their numbers swelling to over 7 million people! That’s a significant jump from the 5.5 million recorded in 2014. The Banyankore hold onto second place, with their population also seeing a healthy increase to 4.2 million.
Coming in hot on their heels of the largest tribes in Uganda are the Basoga, now numbering 3.7 million strong, followed closely by the Iteso at 3.1 million. Interestingly, the Bakiga, who sit at 5th place, have doubled their population in just a decade, reaching almost 3 million people.

It should further be known that, these population census results show a significant increase of 11.3 million persons from the 2014 census. Overall, there is a steady increase in population size over the years from 1969 to 2024.

More so, this steady increase in the number of persons is attributed by many factors like stability and peace, increased supply of food, increased production in the country and many other factors.
