It has been a tight and tense moment for the president of Uganda, HE Yoweri Kaguta Museveni and stakeholders to make a decision that has just been made. It is official that Busoga University in Iganga is now a public university owned by the government of Uganda.
In this, we are being reliably informed that, this university has been acquired by the government with it’s Shs 15 Billion loan. This is a move for the government to allow more regions with public universities which are always a bit cheaper to study in than privately owned ones.
It is further noted that, the government takes over the repayment of this huge loan, but on one condition. This is in a way that, the government under the watch of president Museveni will have to first know what this loan was used for and whether it was spent on public efforts.
President Yoweri Museveni says that, there has been a plan of building a public university in the original colonial zones of Uganda. And Busoga is one of them, so acquiring an already standing Busoga university is seen as a better move.

“The NRM policy is to have a public university in the original 18 colonial zones of Uganda. In Busoga, we are going to build a public university there (Namasagali). As that happens, the idea of taking over this private Busoga university is a good one” President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni noted.
