Shilla Omuriwe Buyungo has currently been appointed to the position of Uganda Volleyball Cranes Head coach.
The renown and talented female coach shall be succeeding Nason Bwesigye who has for some time worked as the national team’s Head but has currently moved on to the position of National Teams Technical Advisory.
Prior to her appointment as the head coach for the Volleyball Cranes, Omuriwe has since 2014 served as the head coach for KAVC (men).
While coaching KAVC, she in 2015 saw them to the African Club Championship in Tunisia from which the team emerged 14th out of a total 24 teams which were participating. Right after, she was appointed to the position of technical director before relocating to Air force in 2017.
As she assumes the position of head coach for the Volleyball National team, one of the most sought local volleyball coaches, Shilla Omuriwe shall work hand in hand with Luke Eitit as her second in command.
Upon taking over office, her first official assignment shall be to the African Nations Championship which is scheduled for later this year in between 19th August and 19th September.
Basing on FIVB statistics, Uganda holds the 116th position world wide while basing on the African continent, where Tunisia ranks at position number one, Uganda has the eighteenth position.
Shilla Omuriwe has held a number of positions in the world of volleyball which include, Coach for girls at the Connecticut Sports Center in between 2008 and 2009 after which she joined University of Bridgeport as the Grad Assistant Coach a position she held from 2007 to 2009.
In between 2016 and 2019, the talented sports lady served as the Youth Coach for girls at KISU during this time period, in between 2017 and 2018, she was the Kyambogo University Coach.

She has since 2014 until 2017 been the energy behind the KAVC men’s team as she worked as the team’s Head coach before be snatched to join the Air force Volleyball team still as a head coach since 2018 to date.
2018-2019 saw her hold the position of Assistant Coach of the National Team and in 2021, she was finally appointed to the position of head coach for the Uganda Volleyball Cranes. Congratulations to Shilla Omuriwe, she in deed deserves the best for all her endeavours.
