Sixty-nine (69) year old renown guitarist Sammy Kasule is dead, he worked his life in the Afrigo band as well as celebrated Ugandan 1990’s musician Philly Bongole Lutaya is dead. The unfortunate news was confirmed by his family members as well as former bandmates and close friends Afrigo band.
“It is with deep regret to report the death of our bass guitarist Mr Sammy Kasule,” read Afrigo
band’s obituary in part. Several media personalities have eulogized the late as the king of the guitar and the best of his time and far beyond.
“Vundumuna. 80s Kenya band. Sammy Kasule was their lead guy. We watched them on VoK TV.
A lot of the lyrics were in Luganda. We were refugees trying to learn our mother tongue. Sammy’s music helped. Rest in Peace Sammy,” Allan Kasujja emotionally wrote.
National Unity Platform president Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu also had something to see about the late Sammy Kasule as he described him as one of the people that shaped the Uganda music industry. And hailed the dead Sammy Kasule.
“The Ugandan music fraternity has lost yet another legend. Rest in peace Sammy Kasule, thank you for the legacy you leave behind for the next generation. Great music, great inspiration,” said Kyagulanyi.
