Qatar Airways Fires Staff Over Leaked Bobi Wine Kids’ Travel

On the 7th of January 2021, Qatar Airways was on fire as its staff leaked travelling documents and pictures of Bobi Wine aka Kyagulanyi Ssentamu Robert’s children leaving the country in the wee hours of the night.

The news of the of their departure sparked mixed reactions amongst Ugandans and diehard NUP supporters on why the former presidential candidate was evacuating his family weeks before the country went to polls. Then Qatar Airways staff in Uganda did the unthinkable.

Disclosure of personal data of by Qatar Airways was a direct contravention of section 10 of Uganda’s data protection and privacy law, 2019. The law states that ‘A data collector, a data processor or data controller shall not collect, hold or process personal data in a manner which infringes on the privacy of a data subject.’

Today, Qatar Airways fired 15 Ugandans who had a hand in disclosing passenger information, pictures and also prying on a private affair. One of whom may end up serving jail term since she’s accused of taking the pictures and spreading to various social media platforms.

This comes at a time when Ugandans were eagerly waiting for a comment from officials at Qatar Airways about the said incident, well drastic measures have been taken and we all can be assured that this will be the last stunt that will be pulled by officials and staff at the airline.
