Popular comedian Patrick Salvado Idringi has come out to blast local promoters over the prices they listed for hiring musicians. Events promoters led by Andrew Bajjo of Bajjo events brewed controversy after releasing different prices on which to hire musicians.
These listed Bobi Wine as the highest valued singer at 20 million Uganda shillings. The other musicians came in at much lower staggered prices. These promoters cited how hiring these singers at these high fares always leaves them in huge debts.
And it’s also a thing that is about to put them put of business. However, Salvado said that these promoters have ‘kamanyiro.’ Translated as familiarity. He wondered how they determine someone’s fee and added that it’s tje reason he doesn’t deal with neither of them as he organizes his own shows.
Patrick Salvado wondered how these promoters arrived at a conclusion that someone like Bebe Cool is worth just Shs 1.5m. “Hehehehe Naye these so called Promoters Bamanyira .. How do you set my fee?? Thank God I don’t deal with promoters and do my own shows coz only me understand my value. eh Big size @BebeCoolUG at 1.5M. Kale mumanyira.. it’s not even funny.”
A number of artistes have already come out to trash these fares listed for them. Leone Island boss Dr Jose Chameleone who was fixed at 4m shillings barred his managers from booking shows in Kampala which are less than 10m shillings. Chameleone added that for performances upcountry, prices will be negotiable.
But for Kampala, there is nothing to negotiate about. This seems like a looming upcoming battle between promoters and artistes.
