As the 2021 Ugandan general election is fast approaching, legendary musician Jose Chameleone who doubles up as a politician is confident of winning the Kampala mayoral seat.
In an interview with Spark TV, the Leone Island boss noted that the message in his music will play a huge role in his projected win come 14th January.
“I have a big chance of winning this. At first, they disrespected artistes who joined politics but our music has done a good job,” he said.
Jose Chameleone gave an example of his songs like ‘Bayuda’, ‘Basiima Ogenze’ and ‘Katupakase‘ which he says carry a very good educative message.
“Get my songs and remove the beats and read the message you will realize we write with a purpose. We see different things happening to people,” he noted.
A recent poll conducted on all mayoral candidates indicated that Jose Chameleone was highly likely to win the seat.
According to Chameleone, the people trust him and unless there is a manipulation of votes, he will be declared the winner.
“Unless they rig these elections, but people are ready and willing to vote for Mayanja because they have studied me and found out that I’m the right person. I can’t sing all these songs and still have a coconut head,” Jose Chameleone said.
Joseph Mayanja who running as an independent is standing against the incumbent Lord mayor Elias Lukwago under the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) ticket, Ms. Nabilah Naggayi Sempala, the incumbent Kampala Woman MP, nominated under the National Unity Platform, Charles James Ssenkubuge (Democratic Party), and musician Daniel Kazibwe, aka Ragga Dee (NRM). Others standing on the independent card include Isaac Sendagire, Eddie Bazira Kibalama, Ben Lule, and Innocent Kawooya.
