Ntungamo District Magistrates Court has cleared State Minister for Labour, Mwesigwa Rukatana of all charges relating to the shooting that occurred in Ntungamo district during the National Resistance Movement primaries.
Chief Magistrate Gordon Tumuhimbise stated that the people that attacked Daniel Rweiburingi were unidentified and in a minibus so the State Minister cannot be directly linked to the incident.
“From the evidence, it is very clear that at the second scene the victims were attacked by unidentified occupants of a minibus. There is no cogent evidence whatsoever showing that the accused appeared at this scene and in the light of the grave inconsistencies and contradictions in the prosecution evidence, this court finds the evidence of the witnesses a mere fabrication,” the acting Chief Magistrate ruled.
Due to this, he acquitted the accused beyond reasonable doubt since their is no direct evidence to show that he had a hand in the happenings.

“From the above, I find that the prosecution has miserably failed to prove all the ingredients of the offence of attempted murder against the accused beyond reasonable doubt and the accused should be acquitted of that offence.”
The said incident occurred during the Ntungamo district NRM primaries in which Minister Rukatana was accused of shooting at Daniel Rweiburingi and also damaging his vehicle due to election-related conflict.
