Kyambogo University has registered two Covid-19 deaths including a student and a staff member.
Reports coming in from the administration indicate that two members of the Kyambogo University fraternity a second-year students Doreen Juliet Mirembe and lecturer Sharon Atwine have succumbed to Covid-19.
Doreen Juliet Mirembe was a second-year student pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Teacher Education who succumbed to Covid-19 after spending a couple of days in Intensive Care at Victoria Hospital, Bukoto.
While the Director of Human Resource at the institution of higher learning Mr. Richard Keuber Manano said that the staff member Sharon Atwine who lost her life to Covid-19 will be laid to rest in Kabingo Rwanshetsya, Bushenyi district.
These deaths are a representation of the increasing number of covid-19 infections in between both the teaching and the non-teaching staff at the Banda-based Kyambogo University.
Due to this, the university Vice-Chancellor came to a decision that all physical classes be suspended for the meantime until the surging number of covid-19 infections within the university drop.
While addressing the media, Vice-Chancellor Professor Eli Katunguka Rwakishaya said that the university Administration was greatly worried by the number of students that were showing signs of covid-19 including coughing and sneezing.
Due to this, they decided to lock the university for a space of two weeks at the situation had relaxed and the students could freely study without worry of contracting the virus that has hit in with a second wave.

A similar situation manifested in Nakawa based University Makerere University Business School as Principal Prof Balunywa decided to lockdown the university for a space of two weeks due to the increasing number of covid-19 cases.
