The Minister of Health Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng declares her intentions to contest as the Lira woman
member of parliament in the forthcoming elections. Jane Acheng holds a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of surgery, a master of medicine in pediatrics, and a master of public health, all from Makerere university college of health sciences .she has been saving as the executive director of Lira regional referral hospital and Director General of Medical services.
While in Lira, the minister revealed that for the past two years, people have been encouraging her, and
others asking her to stand as the woman mp in the forthcoming elections, but she asked them to give
her time to critically think about it before declaring it.
“Many people have also called whereas others have encouraged me to show my interest in taking up a political position so today I am declaring openly that I am interested and ready for the position of being a woman Member of Parliament. I am taking up a political position as a representative of the women in Lira district,” Jane Ruth Aceng said.
She did not forget to appreciate the people of Lango who have loved and supported her but most of all
for praying for her. She explained that the Lango people prayed for her when she worked for them over
15 years and she has not regretted anything because she lived among them and they have shown her
love since the time she was appointed by President Museveni as Director-general at health services in
the ministry of health in 2011.

“I am confident that I have not let the people of Lango town. That the work I have been doing has pleased them. That’s why they have been asking me to show my interests in standing as an MP and also encouraging me,” she added.
