IUEA Director Hassan Alwi, His Wife and Child Die as Boat Capsizes

Another tragedy has hit Uganda as a family of three people have capsized in a boat on Kira dam waters where they had gone to tour around and ended up losing their lives, Nalufenya police confirmed the tragedy as reported by Escom security manager. Hassan Alwi and his family die at the same time.

THE WHOLE TRAGEDY REPORT

At around 17:30hrs security manager Escom called Nalufenya police on phone reporting drowning of people at Kiira dam, this was even registered under SD REF 09/30/08/2020. This involved two boats one which had four people namely Hassan Alwi, (father), Shakira Super (mother), Alwi Amirror (child), Jafalu Alwi (child), Okidi Patrick (staff) and the second boat had one person not yet identified who had come to rescue the first boat, which had experienced an engine failure.

POLICE SWUNG INTO ACTION

Upon receipt of information, a team of police officers from Nalufenya police station led by Officer in Charge station, OC CID, Nalufenya medical team, together with Police marine responded to the scene and managed to rescue and saved two lives from the water which had reached Kiira dam Tabines. Also homicide team from Jinja CPS joined in visiting the scene.

Those who survived are those that were rescued people by the names of Jafalu Alwi 12yrs, Okidi Patrick 39 yrs and all are under going treatment at Nile international hospital in Jinja City. It is further alleged that the search for those who drowned is still on going. Those that drowned are Hassan Alwi (director of International University of East Africa), Super Shakirah the wife, Amirror Alwi (their daughter and one rescued person not yet identified die.

It should be remembered that almost two years ago Uganda lost more than 30 people on a boat cruise on Lake Victoria and now here is another tragedy that claimed a family at once. may their souls rest peacefully.
