NBS After 5 show host Douglas Lwanga in an emotion dripping tweet said adios to long time serving and experienced Uganda Cranes team Captain Denis Onyango last night. The renown presenter slightly hinted on the politically infiltrated atmosphere in the Ugandan soccer world which has surpassed even parliament while sadly biding since 2005 Cranes Captain.
“A wise man once said, there’s more politics in the music industry than even in parliament” but
guess what, the politics in Uganda soccer is unbelievable. Farewell Denis Onyango
#UgandaCranes,” Douglas Lwanga remorsefully typed.
Onyango’s exit from the National team comes only days after former team deputy captain Hassan Wasswa set his pen on paper and broke the hearts of many while announcing his unexpected
departure from the same team.
Denis Onyango Records
Thirty-five year old Denis Onyango has set his record high and firm since he served not only as team
captain but also as the team’s never failing goal keeper, here are some of his outrageous achievements. He featured in the 2016 CAF Champions League as well as the 2016 FIFA Club World Cup.
During the same year, he not only got nominated but also won the award for African – based African player of the year for the Nigerian held CAF awarding ceremony.
Basing on International Federation of Football History and Statistics, Onyango by 2016 was considered the World’s tenth best goalkeeper which in deed manifests to his recent games especially during his representation of the country during 2017 African Cup of Nations.
This only deepens the wounds in our hearts as Ugandans wonder if Onyango is replaceable.
