In a campaign budded “Save the DJ,” Ugandan DJs have called upon all Ugandans to stand by their side during this trying time as a result of the financial crisis many of them are facing due to the imposition of a lockdown.
Unlike many other grouping in the entertainment industry like event organizers, DJs haven’t received a penny to help them sail through these trying times yet they do not have any source of livelihood.
Upon the closure of bars, cancellation of any music concerts, DJs have been left without any hope of earnings seeing as the entire entertainment industry has been under padlock and lock for over a year now.
The DJs can only describe this situation as, being extremely alarming since they have not received any message from the government yet they were initially promised a portion of the big cake.
“The situation is alarming, we haven’t received anything as per the government statement,” read their letter requesting for an extra push from the general public to help them survive the challenging times.
Last year, Swangz Avenue musicians Winnie Nwagi, Vinka, and Azawi donated some foodstuffs to Ugandan DJs through their umbrella body as a means to help them maneuver through the lockdown.

At the time, the trio said they completely understood what the Ugandan DJs were going through since they are in a similar position with them resulting from the lockdown.
Now that the lockdown stretch is longer than expected, it maybe a perfect time to donate to the people in the entertainment industry for in over a years’ time, they haven’t had a glimpse at normalcy.
Let us stand together and “Save the DJ.”
