Claims from some people on social media say that he was crying for help for about 20 minutes after the accident happened. It was here that he breathed his last. It took the Police about 5 hours to clear the wreckage.
NUP leader, Bobi Wine took to his X Twitter page to express his condolences to the deceased’s family. He however condemned security’s lack of quick action in rescuing the situation.
“Deepest condolences to the family, friends and loved ones of Mr. Okiot Raphael who perished today in a terrible car accident at Nkumba. Praying for peace and comfort at this very difficult time. We must all be concerned that the late Okiot remained trapped under the wreckage for over 5 hours before the authorities started efforts to rescue him. We must work for a Uganda where citizens receive swift and efficient public services, especially during emergencies. May Okiot’s soul rest in peace.’
The NUP leader however faced a lot of criticism for politicizing an unfortunate death. Many of his followers said that a condolence message would have been enough without politicking the Nkumba Accident.
