David Balondemu, a high-profile city lawyer, tried to pull a disappearing act but got caught red-handed at the airport upon his return from Dubai. He was trying to duck some very serious charges, but now he’s in more hot water than ever.
Balondemu was arrested last Friday evening at the airport right as he got off a plane from Dubai. He was taken straight to the police station in Kampala and is scheduled to be in court on Tuesday. Everyone is on the edge of their seats waiting to see what’s going to happen.
Last year, it should be remembered that, David Balondemu found himself in a legal trouble but managed to get out on bail. He tricked the court with a fake medical document, making them think he was too sick to stay in jail. As soon as he got out, he shot it to Dubai so he wouldn’t have to go back to court.
Now that he’s back, he’s facing a set of new charges in addition to the ones he was already facing. An official at the State House Anti-Corruption Unit (SHACU) stated, “He is at CPS and is likely to appear in Court tomorrow Tuesday. As we process charges for other bigger cases.” Some of these new charges include fraud, money laundering, and even illegally selling land.
It looks like the city lawyer was involved in a ton of shady deals as he is accused of taking huge amounts of money from people, including private investors and even some government projects. Earlier this year, a Korean investor named Hyun UK Kim said that Balondemu swindled him out of a lot of money.
While those charges were initially thrown out due to lack of evidence, they have been reinstated now that he is back. On top of all the criminal charges, Balondemu also filed a civil lawsuit! Before he got arrested, he sued the government and a Korean investor for a crazy amount of money 20 billion shillings.
He claimed that he was being unfairly targeted. Now that he’s back in jail, nobody knows for sure what’s going to happen with his lawsuit. This isn’t Balondemu’s first rodeo when it comes to legal trouble. Earlier this year, he was accused of being involved in a scam that cheated an American company out of 2.2 billion shillings.
This case involved some shady business with a water plant project. But back then, the courts dismissed the charges because they didn’t have enough evidence. But this time, the State House Anti-Corruption Unit, the ones who arrested him, say they have really strong evidence to back up their charges.

They want to make sure that justice is served and that Balondemu is held accountable for his actions. With all of these charges stacked against him, it looks like he is going to be stuck in a long and difficult legal battle.
