COL. SHABAN BANTARIZA BIOGRAPHY
Retired col Bantariza Shaban was born in Mitooma District Western Uganda in1963. He
attended St. Leo’s College, Kyegobe, in Fort Portal, the then Kabarole District for his O-Level.
He later joined the Catholic brotherhood, where he trained as an elementary school teacher.
Shaban later joined Makerere University in 1985 where hid not complete the course as he abandoned
studies and joined the National Resistance Army which was then led by Yoweri Kaguta
Museveni.

Shaban however attended guerrilla boot camp in the Kabarore area, in foothills of the Rwenzori
Mountains, he progressed with army activities and graduated from the Uganda Senior Command
and Staff College where he pursued the senior command course.
ARMY CAREER
Bantariza served as the UPDF spokesperson from 2000 to 2002 from time to time as well as
2003 to 2006 till 2009 at the rank of lieutenant colonel. Shaban following his devotion to work
he served as the commander of the Oliver Tambo Leadership School, in Kaweweta, Nakaseke
District.
The military success and career grew on as Shaban was on 26 February 2009 appointed
commandant of the National Leadership Institute (NALI), in Kyankwanzi, Kyankwanzi District
a position he held till 7th October 2011.
Col. Shaban Bantariza was later relieved off his prior duties and appointed as Deputy Executive Director of the National Media Centre in June 2013. Unfortunately when Shaban attained the rank of
colonel, he was arrested.
And charged with embezzlement and remanded to Makindye Military prison by the General Court Martial on charges of alleged fraud.
With several court proceedings which lasted nearly three years, the Court Martial chaired by
Major General Levi Karuhanga then acquitted Colonel Bantariza case due to lack of evidence
against him on 14 April 2015.
Notably on 24 June 2015, following the case dismissal by the general court martial, he resumed
work at the Uganda Media Centre after the President directed in writing that Bantariza resumes
work.
