It seems things did not completely go bad for Kyagulanyi Ssentamu National Unity Platform (NUP) side after the loss of the presidential seat. This comes in with a light of great news that the side has collected the highest number of Opposition Members of Parliament (MPs) 2021-2026.
Out of the total 499 Members of Parliament, Kyagulanyi Ssentamu’s NUP party got 61 Members of Parliament, followed by Oboi Amuriat’s Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) with 34 Members o Parliament. The rest are UPC with 10, DP with 8, ANT 1, Jeema 1, PPP 1 with one MP results pending.
On the other hand, the ruling NRM party got 310 Members of Parliament, making the party the one with the highest number of Members of Parliament in the 11th parliament 2021-2026. Still, however much the party lost many seats including that of the Vice President Edward Ssekandi, it still has the steering of parliament.
More so, since NUP has the biggest number of Members of Parliament (MPs), it gets the privilege to elect the next Leader of Opposition in Parliament. Again, Kyagulanyi’s party NUP has the privilege to appoint the Chairman COSASE.
In a press briefing, Kasule Lumumba has said that the NRM party is investigating why it terribly lost the seats of its MPs and Ministers. And she has added that the good thing, they did not lose ‘everything’. This brings us to the light that, where most NRM MPs lost, they lost to NUP contestants.
