A man tragically drowned while transporting a bull for an Independence Day celebration after the animal panicked while crossing a flooded road. The incident occurred in Kwania District on October 8th, casting a somber shadow over the upcoming festivities.
Geoffrey Ojok, a 55-year-old resident of Enyon Village, was moving the bull he had purchased from Adograo Parish to Aduku Town, where it was intended to be slaughtered for the celebrations. However, tragedy struck when the bull became agitated while navigating a waterlogged section of the road.
“He was moving a bull he bought from Adograo Parish then he tried to move along a section of the road which was already flooded but the bull turned wild in the middle of the water and pulled him to the deepest spot and he drowned and died,” quipped Walter Engur, a witness to the heartbreaking event.
Adding to the tragedy, the road’s precarious condition, with a deep spot reportedly dug during construction, further jeopardized Ojok’s chances of survival. This was escalated by the bull after it saw water and got frightened and left him without the rope that would help him to be pulled.
“He was taking this bull to Aduku Town where it was going to be slaughtered for Independence Day celebration but this bull got frightened inside the water instead of him leaving the rope he held it tight and was pushed deep in the spot dug by the excavator during the construction work on the road,” explained Alfred Aloka, another resident.
Local authorities, including James Okello, the Officer in Charge of Alido Police Outpost, confirmed the incident. And this website confirmed that Ojok’s body was retrieved and released to his family after declining a postmortem.
That is how the independence bull turned to be a deadly trap and left people of Enyon Village, in Kwania District speechless and in fear.
