He is a Kenyan Politician currently serving as the Deputy President of Kenya since 2013. Here is his biography, net worth, family, education, political career and more you should know about him.


Ruto was born on 21st December 1966 from Kamugut, Uasin Gishu. He was born to Daniel Cheruiyot and Sarah Cheruiyot and he has more than 3 siblings. William Ruto is one of the top political figures in Kenya.

Education Background

William Samoei Arap Ruto attended Kerotet Primary School for his primary school education, and then joined Wareng Secondary School for his Ordinary Level education. It is more so known that, he proceeded to Kapsabet Boys, Nandi for his Advanced Levels. He then went on to receive a BSc (Botany and Zoology) from the University of Nairobi, graduating in 1990.

Political Career

William Ruto is currently serving as the Deputy President of Kenya since 2013. He is the UDA-Kenya Kwanza presidential candidate in the 2022 presidential elections. In the 2017 presidential election, Ruto was elected the 1st Deputy President alongside Uhuru Kenyatta as President under the Jubilee Party ticket.

It should also be noted that, William Ruto served as the Education Minister in the Mwai Kibaki’s administration twice between 2008 to 2010. More so, he was the Home Affairs Minister in the Daniel Arap  Moi administration in 2002. Between 1998 and his inauguration as Deputy President in 2013, Ruto was also member of the Parliament of Kenya.


Ruto is married to Rachel Chebet Ruto as his wife and the two got married in 1991. The couple is blessed with six children that include; George Kimutai Ruto, Nick Ruto, Stephanie Ruto, June Ruto, Nadia Ruto (adopted) and Charlene Chelagat Ruto.

William Samoei Arap Ruto is a businessman that deal majorly in real estate, insurance and hospitality industry and he owns Weston Hotel, Sixeighty Hotel in Nairobi CBD, major shareholder in Africa Merchant Assurance Company and many more. His net worth is estimated to be around $500m.
