Following the tragic death of long serving governor of Bank of Uganda, Emmanuel Mutebile, his widow has cried out to government to let his family continue inhabiting the residence that is owned by the Central Bank and is the official residency of the bank’s governor.
According to the grieving widow, the late Professor never constructed a home within the city and therefore, his family would be rendered homeless in case they were to be evicted from the government owned premises.
In a quest to help the widow, Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Anita Among proposed that the residency be awarded to the family as an appreciation for the great works the deceases did for the country.
This right away sparked arguments some Members of Parliament believe that for a man that was earning UGX 53 million per month, he ought to have planned ahead of time for the good of his family.
On the other hand, others believe that his family deserves the reward since their truly isn’t a better way to console them after the untimely death of such a man who sacrificed everything for the sake of our economy.
According to Jimmy Akena, the late Professor Emmanuel Mutebile stood by their family even after the death of their father, the former head of state and Uganda’s first ever Prime Minister Dr. Apollo Milton Obote.
The debate is still on going and the final decision lays in the hands of the Parliamentarians.
Hopefully, the grieving family shall be considered in the midst of all the turmoil they are currently undergoing.
