Robinah Nabbanja, the Prime Minister of Uganda, has been awarded the Global Women Leadership Award in New York, in recognition of her advocacy for gender equality. The award, presented by the UK-based Centre of Economic and Leadership Development, celebrates women who have shown exceptional leadership on a global scale.
Hon Robinah Nabbanja received the award at the Global Power Women Conference 2024, held at the Graduate Centre University of New York City on September 26th. The award is given to “visionary leaders who strategically navigate complex challenges and leverage opportunities to create a better world”.
During the event, Ms Nabbanja, who is also the women’s representative for Kakumiro District in the 11th Parliament, highlighted the progress Uganda has made in promoting gender equality through legislation and policy.
She dedicated the award to President Yoweri Museveni, the Ugandan cabinet, the people of Kakumiro District, and all Ugandans. In her keynote address, Ms Nabbanja stressed the importance of empowering women, particularly in the financial sector, as a key driver of global transformation.
She urged women in leadership positions to support their peers and avoid detrimental behaviors like intrigue and unnecessary disputes. She also called on world leaders to dismantle all discriminatory legal frameworks that hinder the empowerment of women.
The theme of this year’s conference was “Advancing the Transformative Power of Technology through Women’s Lens: Shaping the Future of Business and Governance”.
