Five players on the Eritrea National team under 20 have disappeared in Uganda following the U-20 CECAFA championships that the country hosted.
So far, nothing whatsoever is known about the whereabouts of the said players. Except the fact that they disappeared from their hotel in Jinja where they are meant to be staying in between 30th October and 9th November during the CECAFA games.
In a statement addressing the current predicament, CECAFA said they are looking into the matter as they said. “The matter has been reported to the Police in Jinja and investigations are ongoing. CECAFA, FUFA, and the Police are doing their best to locate these players.”
Aside from this, no other information has been released so far not even the names of the ladies who have disappeared. While representing their country during the championships in another country.
Eritrea is expected to play against Uganda in her third game this Wednesday. Following her losses in the two beginning games again Tanzania and Ethiopia.
However, this is not the first time that Eritrea National team players are disappearing in Uganda as back to 2019, four of their players from the U-20 men’s team suddenly disappeared in Njeru, Jinja district.
It is a common trend for sports personalities to disappear especially while representing their countries in foreign states. Hopefully the five athletes shall be found and returned to their home country in a sound state.
